Trash Day multiplayer is online co-op for up to 6 raccoons (one player per raccoon); there is no couch or local co-op, so two players on one PC need Steam Remote Play; the demo is a free co-op testbed for one of the six planned areas.

More context

A small squad of 2–3 is fully supported and easier to coordinate. Roles are emergent — driver, engineer, scout, climber — and the same raccoon can swap jobs mid-run. Drop into online co-op whenever a busy highway, a wide river, or a guard-dog camp stalls the wagon.

Player count on Steam

Maximum session: 6 raccoons (one host plus 5 others) online together.

Smaller squads: 2 to 3 players are fully supported and easier for newcomers to coordinate.

Each raccoon is one player; the wagon itself is not a controllable character.

Is Trash Day couch co-op or local co-op?

The Steam feature list shows Single Player, Online Co-op, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing.

No shared-screen or local-co-op icon is listed, so the game itself does not offer couch co-op.

Two players on one PC can play together only by streaming the session through Steam Remote Play or a similar tool.

Trying co-op for free in the Trash Day demo

A free Trash Day Demo is its own Steam app entry and covers one of the six planned areas (the wilderness stretch with campsites, slopes, and a "still under development" gate).

The demo is intended as a co-op testbed, so queue up with at least one friend through the demo's online co-op to try the wagon-pushing loop together.

The full release adds five more areas, more obstacles, and a complete soundtrack on top of what the demo unlocks.

Co-op roles on a squad

Roles are emergent, not locked to a character sheet. In a typical squad, raccoons naturally fall into a few jobs:

  • Driver: one raccoon steers the cart while others push from behind.
  • Engineer: another player rigs planks, bungee cords, and seesaws to clear the next obstacle.
  • Scout / lookout: one or two raccoons peel off to distract guard dogs, hornets, or other animals so the cart can roll past.
  • Climber: any raccoon can climb, stack on a friend's shoulders, or launch off a seesaw to reach higher trash cans.

Because the jobs are defined by what each raccoon grabs onto, the same player can swap from driver to lookout mid-run whenever the squad needs it.
